9/17/08 Paulding, Day 2 Munising, Bond Falls MI, Picture Rocks

Captain’s Blog

Today started out cool (41 degrees) but quickly warmed to 68. Warm enough but there is a chill in the air. The leaves in the UP are changing color rapidly and are very vibrant. Some trees have full fall foliage color while others are either still green or have a smattering of color on them.

This morning we took a hike to Bond Falls. Once again the falls did not disappoint and Jewel loved the walk. She has adjusted very well to life on the road and loves to explore different places. Since we were the only campers in the area we did not put Jewel on her lease and she ventured too far away from the campsite and got into the muck from the lakebed. She returned with her paws looking like little black boots. She was not happy when I had to wash her paws and less happy when I made her go back into the RV until we were ready to leave.

Need I mention that the site we were in was really not set up for a big motorhome and Ron had to make several swings to get it back onto the very narrow dirt road. I’m thinking we need a smaller RV so we can set up on more remote campsites since Ron continues to take risks when entering small spaces.

One thing has not changed in the UP and that is the bugs. Our windshield looks like a pellet gun has hit it. You can actually hear the bugs hit – it sounds like hail.

We arrived in Munising around 6:30 PM and grabbed a site at the City of Munising Tourist Park. The park is on the shores of Lake Superior and is fairly reasonably priced. They have added several new full hook-up sites and we were lucky enough to get the end site on the lake so our view to the west is unobstructed.

We set up and relaxed on the shore while watching the sunset. It was spectacular since the skies were a varying array of pinks, purples and blues. We felt like we had been placed in a postcard. The colors in the sky were so beautiful that if this was an artist’ painting one would think that the colors had been exaggerated.
Tomorrow we plan to spend some time hiking and taking a shipwreck tour out of Munising harbor.
