This morning we woke to clear skies and a great view of the lake. After a hearty breakfast and a Happy Birthday to Ron it was on down the road to our next stop the Apostle Islands in Wisconsin. The drive was approximately 200 miles and again we ran into the Ike storm front moving across the area. Pouring rain and high winds made for a long tiring day.

I researched and found a campground in the Apostle Islands area and plugged it into our GPS system. Ron tells me to not be so dependent on the system because of my directional shortcomings. Yup, you guessed it, I directed Ron down a dirt road that was not only on the wrong end of town but had a weight limit on the bridge that was far less then our weight. Boy, was he mad – a small disagreement ensued and we had to disconnect the car in the wind and the rain but not until Ron made sure I knew how dumb I was. I followed him through town and we did find the campground. We were given a site on a hill overlooking Superior but because of the fog and rain it was hard to distinguish sky from water.

Ron apologized for getting so upset and the rest of the day went smoothly. We had cable TV so we were able to watch the Patriots play and win. We also had internet access. The sky was clearing and rain stopped so all is good in the world of travel.

Later that evening we drove around the town and checked out where we would be picking up our tour boat tomorrow. The town of Bayfield, Wisconsin population 612 is very pretty and well maintained. It is a tourist town that does well in the summer months with boating and island tours and in the winter with snowmobiling and winter sports. There are several beautiful B&B’s and the municipal buildings are architecturally stunning.

Both Tom and Kelly called to wish Ron a Happy Birthday (see E-card Kelly sent)
Good news for Kelly, after eight years at Group Health she has resigned and has accepted a position at Amazon.com in Seattle. She is thrilled and will be starting her new position on October 6, 2008. Congratulations to Kelly.
