Before leaving Grand Marias this morning Ron was doing his usual safety check of the RV while I was closing the interior spaces, levelers and re-inflating the air suspension ride. He decided he should check the tow bar on the car (something we don’t think about) and wouldn’t you know it was loose. I’m not sure how he does this but he always gets a vibe if something is not right- his ESP working again! It took some wrangling but he did get the tow bar tightened.
We stopped at Temperance River

As we were traveling along the weather deteriorated rapidly and it began to pour. I guess we were being hit with the remnants of hurricane IKE. The entire Midwest has been soaked and there has been severe flooding in the area.
We didn’t let the rain get in the way and stopped at Split Rock Light House on the Minnesota shore of Lake Superior.

Nice Lighthouse stories. http://www.woodalls.com/output.cfm?id=173453lighthose traverse a huge, long staircase to the lake-shore –
it was certainly worth the trip.

Along the trail to the steps is an incredible forest of birch trees.
Ron loves birch trees and he was in his glory. Birch is abundant in this part of the country but this stretch of forest was especially pretty.
We then headed out to Two Harbors in search of a campground. We were experiencing torrential rain and were ready to settle down for the night. We got into a municipal campground by luck.
They had only two open sites and we fit into one of them. The fog and rain was so heavy we were unable to see the lake from our lake view site.
